Founded in 1999, the Institute of Chinese and Foreign Education Modernization Studies is one of the top 10 leading institutes in the field of humanities and social sciences of Zhejiang University. It currently has 15 full-time researchers and 3 part-time researchers, among whom 10 are professors and 6 are associate professors, 10 are doctoral supervisors and 17 are Ph.D. holders.
The faculty members of the Institute are involved in the research on the following issues: modernization of Chinese and foreign education, history of Chinese and foreign higher education, history of Sino-foreign educational exchange, policies of international higher education, comparative higher education, comparative moral education, etc. The Institute has undertaken a number of research projects supported by the State Social Sciences Fund, National Fund for Educational Studies of Ministry of Education and Philosophy and Social Sciences Fund of Zhejiang Province, and their research findings have been published as follows : A Collected works on the Modernization of Chinese Education, Studies on Compulsory Education in Modern China, Chinese Translations of world-famous works on Higher Education, which have won the Award for Outstanding Achievements of Philosophy and Social Sciences for Institutions of Higher Learning and the Award for Outstanding Achievements of Educational Studies set up by Ministry of Education. It has also earned the first, second and third prizes for Outstanding Achievements of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Zhejiang Province. The institute has already established wide and frequent academic exchanges and relationships with many prestigious universities at home and abroad.
